Switzerland bridges

A cover with Europa 2018 Switzerland stamps !

The two Swiss EUROPA stamps combine old and new. Firstly, the Spreuer Bridge, built in Lucerne in the 13th century, is the oldest surviving wooden bridge in Europe following the Chapel Bridge re. Secondly, the Trift Bridge is one of the longest and highest pedestrian-only sus- pension bridges in the Alps. At 100 metres high and 170 metres long, it is recom- mended only for those with a head for heights!

It is called the Spreuer Bridge because this was the only place that the chaff from wheat (Spreu) could be dumped into the river. This historic covered bridge contains a series of macabre paintings that communicate one thing: everyone dies. - and is called Lucerne’s Dance of Death bridge !

Trift Bridge is one of the most spectacular pedestrian suspension bridges of the Alps. It is 100 meters high and 170 meters long, and is poised above the region of the Trift Glacier. Even reaching the bridge through the ravine by cable car is an adventure.

Two beautiful bridges on a nice cover ! Thanks Thibaut .
