Trains , Roads and Mails in my homeland - Poland !

I have grown to recognise the sender with just the handwriting on the front of the cover - and beautiful stamps from Poland !

The cover is as interesting , as the letter inside :) FYI- I love long letters :)

A beautiful Setenant Stamp - for the 100th anniversary of the steam locomotive plant in Kedzierzynie- Kozlu (31.08.2018) . I have been at a loss to find out more about the railway history of this town , about 2 hours west of Krakow !

Via Carpathia (also Via Capathia or Via Carpatia) is a planned transnational highway network connecting Klaipėda in Lithuania with Thessaloniki in Greece. It is currently planned to open in 2025. The road will run in a general north-south direction through central Europe from the Baltic Sea to the Mediterranean. Its northern terminus is the Lithuanian port city of Klaipėda. It will then cross the country eastward, pass through eastern Poland, eastern Slovakia and the Hungarian and Romanian border. It will continue in western Romania and western Bulgaria before entering Greece. Its southern terminus is the Greek port city of Thessaloniki.

The route was initially agreed upon in 2006 by Lithuania, Poland, Hungary and Slovakia. In 2010, this group was joined by Greece, Romania and Bulgaria who signed the so called Łańcut Declaration.

On 22 June 2017, Poland and the Ukraine signed a cooperation agreement for the construction of the road. Signatories indicated the road could be part of the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T)

A stamp issued in 2009 for the World Post Day . The stamp shows an envelope with the colours of the Polish flag !

Poland - my Homeland !

Thanks Wojtek- for the letter - am sure you had a nice holiday :) and thanks for the stamps too ! They all have got their special place in my WW1 album !

Update : 25-01-2019

Thanks Wojtek for making me re look at the postmark :)

Wawel Cathedral is very much the holy of holies, and not just in Cracow, but Poland-wide. Today's cathedral is the third on Wawel Hill, the K motif on the door recalling King Kazimierz the Great, who completed the rebuilding in the fourteenth century. Chapels were added on over the years, mainly for monarchs or grand names from amongst Poland's aristocracy. Many of the most revered names in Polish history were laid to rest in the tombs beneath the cathedral, including Romantic poet Adam Mickiewicz and 'Father of Independence' Jozef Pilsudski.

I will be writing soon on Wawel church and King Kazimierz ;)

  1. Dear Sriraam, On the envelope you can see the special cancellation. This "K" reproduces the famous "K" from the main door to the Wawel Cathedral in Kraków where are the tombs of Polish kings and other national heroes.

  2. I've forgotten to mention that this "K" refers to one of our greatest kings - Kazimierz Wielki (Casimir III the Great).
